Macintosh OS 8 SetUp Assistant
for Pioneer Internet Users

  1. Open the Internet Setup Assistant, found on your hard drive. If you do not find it there, you will find a folder titled "Assistants" which will contain the Setup Assistant.

After opening the Internet Setup Assistant, you will see the following:

  1. On the first screen, you will only need to press the "Update" button to continue with your configuration for your Pioneer account

This screen is an explanation of what you will be doing within the Setup Assistant

  1. Click on the right arrow at the bottom to continue.

  1. If you are creating a new connection with the Setup Assistant, select the Add radio button. If you would like to make changes to an existing connection that has been created, use Modify.

  1. Enter "Pioneer Internet" (no quotes) for the name of the connection. Also, select the connection style you will be using. This is most likely going to be set to Modem.

  1. Select from the list the brand of modem you will be using. The port that your modem is connected to should also be set at this time. If the Setup Assistant has not defaulted to Tone at the bottom of this screen, change it at this time.

(you may click on Local Phone Number above in the image to find your correct local number)

  1. In the appropriate fields, enter the phone number local to you, as well as your username and password. These should both be entered in lower case.

  1. On IP Address nothing should be changed on this screen. Just click on the right arrow at the bottom.

  1. In the top box, enter the primary DNS number 206.253.33.130, then press your Return key. Enter the secondary number 206.253.33.131. In the bottom box, enter the domain name pld.com, all in lower case.

  1. Enter your e-mail address (username@pld.com), and password in the appropriate fields. Your e-mail password is the same password you use when you log on. It will show in alphanumeric characters at first, so you will be sure that you entered the correct password, and will switch to a series of dots when you continue to the next screen.

  1. In this screen, you will enter the names of our incoming (POP which is: mail.pld.com) and outgoing (SMTP which is: mail.pld.com) mail servers.

  1. The name of the news server that you should enter is "news1.pld.com" (without quotes).

Congratulations! You are now finished with your setup. You can connect now, if you like. Later on, to connect to Pioneer, you will find a "Connect to..." alias in your Apple Menu. Select the Pioneer connection that you have configured, and have fun!
