Netscape Communicator 4.05 Configurations
for Pioneer Internet Users

START - (No wizard)
Make a connection in Dial-Up Networking:

  1. Double click - My Computer
    Double click - Dial-Up Networking
    Double click - Make New Connection

  2. Type a name for the computer you are dialing
    Type - Pioneer
    Next

  3. Area code: 620
    Telephone Number: Local access number
    Next
    Finish

  4. Right click Pioneer icon
    Take the checkmark out of Use country code and area code

  5. Click on - Server Types
    Only two items should be checked
    Enable software compression
    TCP/IP
    Click on TCP/IP Settings
    Server Assigned IP address (should be checked)
    Server Assigned name server address (should be checked)
    AND
    Two checks at the bottom
    Use IP header compression
    Use default gateway on remote network

  6. OK, OK again

  7. Make Shortcut for Desktop


  1. Open Netscape
    Click - Edit
    Click - Preferences
    Click on Mail & Newsgroups
    Tree will drop down

  2. Click - Identity
    Your name: Name you want people to see when you email them
    E-mail address: userid@pld.com

  3. Click on Mail Server
    Mail server user name: User Id
    Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: mail.pld.com
    Incoming mail server: mail.pld.com

  4. Click on Groups server
    news1.pld.com

  5. OK

  6. Close Netscape


  1. Goto - Control Panel

  2. Double click - Network
    Only 3 items need to be installed
    (unless you are on a network, then leave their network card alone)
    Client for Microsoft Networks
    Dial-Up Adapter
    TCP/IP dial-up adapter

  3. Highlight - TCP/IP dial-up adapter
    Click properties
    Obtain an IP address automatically

  4. Click on WINS configuration - Disable WINS Resolution
    Click on DNS configuration - Disable DNS
    Click OK

  5. Click Identification tab
    Computer name - (User Id)
    Workgroup - (can be anything)
    Computer Description - (can be anything)
    Click OK
    (The computer will pick some files up from the C drive or ask for Windows CD
    and then ask to reboot)
    OK
    (The computer will pick some files up from the C drive or ask for Windows CD
    and then ask to reboot)
    (The computer will pick some files up from the C drive or ask for Windows CD
    and then ask to reboot)
