Step 1 - - - - - - - - - -
Create your webpage or pages on your local hard-drive.
If you choose to create and edit your webpage(s), there are many HTML Editors and packages available that make web editing and designing more user friendly. You choose the program that is right for you. You may have to search the Internet to find an HTML Editor that you are comfortable using to design your pages with. You may also find FTP client software which will allow you to upload your files to the server.
Step 2 - - - - - - - - - -
Upload your page/s and/or images to your account directory on the server and place them in the subdirectory folder called homepage (This "homepage" folder will already be made for you - (DO NOT DELETE THE homepage FOLDER!!!), if it is not made please email webmaster@pld.com ) .
The recommended means of file transfer from your hard-drive to Pioneer's server is: FTP (File Transfer Protocol).
Here are the necessary settings that your FTP client will require:
- Host: users.pld.com
- Username/ID: your login username
- Host type: UNIX (standard) or Auto Detect
- Password: your email password for your master account
PLEASE NOTE: There are many FTP clients out there to use; you can research and download one off the internet if you don't have one already. A couple popular FTP clients include CuteFTP and WSFTP Pro. For further assistance uploading here are some links that may help you.
- If uploading with CuteFTP click here.
- If uploading with FrontPage click here.
- If uploading with Publisher click here.
VERY IMPORTANT: Your main page or splash page (aka, homepage) should be named master.html (all lowercase). This is the first page people will see when they go to your site. If your page isn't showing up on your browser, please make sure you have named it correctly and that it is inside your homepage folder along with your other files.
If you see a page online at your FREE user homepage address that says "FORBIDDEN" - this means that you don't have a master.html page uploaded to the server yet. If you do, please email webmaster@pld.com .
THERE IS NO FTP ACCESS ALLOWED OUTSIDE OUR SYSTEM. FTP WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU ARE TRANSFERRING FILES WITHIN
PIONEER COMMUNICATIONS INTERNET SYSTEM
From this point, you may arrange your linked directories and documents in any manner you wish. We only require the
homepage/master.html document as a default point to drop an active link to your page from our web server. Your homepage
will then take on the following URL format (substituting your username):
This is the address people will type into their browser to find your homepage:
http://users.pld.com/username
If you have uploaded your files and you go to your web address in a web browser and your page doesn't show up
(NOTE THE 'VERY IMPORTANT' NOTE ABOVE), please send an email at webmaster@pld.com and we will verify that an active link is made.
Step 3 - - - - - - - - - -
If you would like your homepage listed on the Pioneer Internet Personal Webpages Index of user pages, please notify
webmaster@pld.com when your page is ready for viewing, and the link will be built for you.
